Which browser is fastest?

Yesterday’s release of Opera 9.5 and Tuesday’s planned release of Firefox 3 may have you thinking about upgrading from Internet Explorer 7 (or even IE 6).

If so, you’re probably wondering which browser is fastest. The folks over at Lifehacker have put all the contenders to an informal test and found Opera and Safari to be fastest (while Firefox uses the least RAM).

There are, of course, other considerations to make before choosing a browser, like features and add-ons and compatibility with Web pages, but speed is certainly critical.
